Local products and recipes from the Val di Sole
You haven’t had a real holiday in Val di Sole if you haven’t tasted our authentic local products and traditional recipes. The local cuisine has always been based on simple raw materials, which our grandmothers have taught us how to combine and fuse together to create something unique. Ask the staff of the Agenzia Montana Smartholidays & apartments where you can eat a good apple strudel made with authentic Val di Sole and Val di Non apples, the finest game with its classic accompaniment of polenta, and our famous cheeses, such as the typical Val di Sole Casolet, and the ricotta known here as “poina”.
When you’re on holiday in Val di Sole, get to know and love our local produce. Casolet is a unique cheese made from raw milk and eaten while still fresh or semi-matured along with a few slices of salami. Discover the fascinating history of each product: the name of this cheese comes from certain inhabitants of the Val di Sole, who were known as “casoletti”.
“Poina” ricotta is excellent by itself, but is also used in a range of recipes, such as gnocchi, potato pasta, tortellini and the delicious “biscotti de poina” biscuits. If you have a sweet tooth, you won’t be able to resist the cakes and desserts: strudel, typical of the whole Trentino, as well as torta di fregoloti, a nutty crumble cake, perfect at any time of day.
